Coral on Land

Description

If the brown leaves were not surrounding the violet coral (aka Clavaria zollingeri) then you'd swear this could have been found under the sea. But it wasn't - it would found in the forests of Murphy's Point Provincial Park located a little over an hour south west of Ottawa, slightly past Smiths Falls. If it wasn't for its vibrant violet hue I may have stepped on it, but thankfully it was fully in tact when I left. This fungi type is inedible. While it isn't toxic or deadly, eating it can cause gastrointestinal distress. It's also rubbery so it wouldn't b an enjoyable snack anyways.
